Students learn from the best for Jazz Ticket
Students from Cardinal Newman Catholic School, Luton Sixth Form College and Ashcroft High School will be taking part in the project.
The project, in association with Turner Sims and Southampton Music Hub, is marking the centenary of the birth of six giants of Jazz, composer ‘Tadd’ Dameron, vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, pianist Thelonious Monk, drummer Buddy Rich and percussionist Mongo Santamaria.

Hide AdThe Jazz Ticket gives young musicians, aged 11-18, the opportunity to work with leading Jazz professionals and develop their performance and improvisation skills, while exploring the history of the genre and six of its pioneering artists, born 100 years ago.
The project finishes with a series of concerts across the country featuring the students alongside Tomorrow’s Warriors’ jazz ensemble, the Nu Civilisation Orchestra.
Rebecca Goode, head of music at Ashcroft High School, said: “The children have been rehearsing and they are really looking forward to performing at the concert.
“There are a variety of instruments involved in the piece and the students have really enjoyed working with the experienced musicians, they have been inspired by them. The pupils have improved their improvisation skills and have been developing their musical skills.”
