‘Swinging for Keech’ event

Two years ago Dunstable childminder Kirstie Riches organised a rock ‘n’ roll fundraiser in memory of her beloved grandad James Dennis ‘Jim’ Green - known affectionately to his large and loving family as the ‘Sand Castle King’ because of all the bucket-and-spade holidays they shared.

It was in aid of Keech Hospice Care who looked after the King and his brood with such care and compassion that they all wanted to give something back after he died of pancreatic cancer, only months after being diagnosed.

Kirstie, who runs LKK Childminding with her mum and sisters, said: “They were amazing, fantastic, truly remarkable. And it’s not just medical attention – we couldn’t believe what they did for him. Thanks to Keech his end was dignified, pain free and peaceful. To them the end is just as important as the beginning – and that’s just as it should be.”

Kirstie has upped her fundraising target to £10,000 and has organised ‘Swinging for Keech,’ a black tie charity night.

It will be held at Dunstable’s United Services Club on Friday December 4 and will feature Joe Corrigan & Signature Swing. Tickets cost £15 each from 07734 967814.
