Teens can work with animals at Zoo Academy

WANNABE young vets and zoo keepers can get a practical taste for the sought-after jobs in new courses at Whipsnade Zoo this summer.

ZSL Zoo Academy is offering animal-based courses designed for teens aged 15 to 17.

They are aimed at youngsters who are eager to embark on a career as a vet, veterinary nurse, zoo keeper or any other animal-related studies.

Run over eight days, the programme includes study sessions on working with different exotic species and more than 20 hours of practical experience.

Students will complete an evidence portfolio of their work and receive a certificate and a reference statement on completion of the course.

And each week the group will prepare diets for a variety of different species within the zoo.

Students can expect to be involved with small mammals and invertebrates, as well as big cats and white rhinos.

On the final day of the course, family and friends of the students are invited to attend ZSL Zoo Academy Graduation.

The course runs from Monday, August 15 to Wednesday, August 24 at a cost of £500 per student.
