The RSPCA is appealing for information after a puppy was found abandoned in a wood in Luton with a broken leg.
Poppy, a four-month-old Mastiff cross, was discovered by a passing dog walker on Thursday, June 4, just lying in a wooded area near Ashburnham Road.
The puppy was crying in pain, with her left leg hanging limp, and injuries to her ears which appeared to have been cropped.
The RSPCA was called and Poppy is now in the charity’s care receiving vet treatment. X-Rays revealed the leg was broken.
RSPCA animal collection officer Grace Mead said: “The large bone in Poppy’s front leg was completely broken. She must have been in such pain, as well as terrified at being left out there all alone.
“Who knows what happened to her but she also had ears which seemed to have been cut, and very short claws, and just seemed generally in a bad way. She is an incredibly lovely dog who has melted all our hearts. Once she has recovered I have no doubt she will be snapped up and found a new home.”
