The cancer unit means a lot to me

Keen runner and Macmillan clinical nurse specialist Mark Paddar is usually to be found at the front of the marathon pack.

But when the Dunstable Road Runners Trail Run in aid of the L&D’s Macmillan Cancer Unit takes place on Sunday, March 10 he’ll be behind the scenes helping out.

Mark, of Clarkes Way in Houghton Regis, says running is a big part of his life and when he’s doing an event for charity, his thoughts are constantly with his patients.

“I think of what they’re going through and how they’re dealing with their diagnosis,” he explained. “We get to know them very well during this difficult time in their lives.

“The hospital is like a village where everybody looks out for each other. It’s a fab place to work.”

His area of expertise is urological cancers. He manages treatment, assists with symptoms and provides emotional support for patients and their relatives through their cancer journey and beyond.
