The publisher who donned a T-shirt to sell his own book

THE PUBLISHER involved in Keech Hospice Care’s 21st anniversary book, due out in April, had a novel approach to drumming up interest in his latest project, a fascinating insight into life and the universe.

Dr Peter Altman, 70, of St Albans walked the London Book Fair wearing a T-shirt proclaiming ‘WANTED – a publisher for my popular science fiction book.’

And his ingenuity paid off – Nottingham University Press has not only published 18 Questions: Life and the Universe but has also commissioned a follow-up, 18 Questions: Conventional and Alternative Medicine.

He has also written The Pocket Guide to Stayin’ Alive.

The outgoing academic and Magic Circle member (right) had never heard of the hospice until he was approached to take on its anniversary issue.

Now he’s a convert. “I’m very impressed,” he said.
