Tiny trunk shows new elephant life

The image, created with a 3D ultrasound scanner, shows the elephant embryo at three months - 19 months before he was born.

Ultrasound scans are carried out throughout the 22-month pregnancy, much like with humans, to monitor the health and well-being of mum and baby.

George’s amazing birth was captured by cameras and viewers can witness the incredible moment in episode two of ITV1’s The Zoo, on tonight, Tuesday 16 November at 8pm.

Now 6 months old, George weighs around 60 stone and is a boisterous member of the herd of Asian elephants at the zoo.
