Top tips for a circus wannabe

Most children dream of joining the circus, but 12-year-old Luke McQuillan is well on the way to realising his ambition.

He’s not only getting hints and tips from Big Top performer Joel Hatton, but he’s also been offered a chance to appear alongside the unicycle expert at Circus Wonderland in Stockwood Park this week.

The Chalk Hill Academy School student – who’s been practising his juggling, plate spinning and unicycle skills as long as he can remember – said: “I can’t wait to work with Joel and be part of his act.”

And Joel is pretty impressed with his aspiring young co-star. He said: “Luke can juggle on a five foot unicycle – a remarkable achievement for someone his age with no formal training.”

The pair have much in common. Neither is from a circus background and both are self taught.

Luke has made brief appearances in the past with Circus Wonderland clowns, but this is the first time he has been invited to become part of a professional act.
