Raymond Lilley, 72, indecently assaulted the young girl over a number of years during the 1990s, and was sentenced yesterday at Luton Crown Court.

Det Con Nadia Hussein said: “Lilley took advantage of his victim for a number of years, forcing abhorrent sexual abuse on her at an age when she was too young to understand what was happening.

“This case is an example of how we are committed to investigating any allegation of sexual abuse and that justice can still be done, even if the offences occured several years ago.

“We hope this gives other people who may have been sexually abused in the past to come forward in the knowledge that they will be listened to and taken seriously, and it’s not too late for action to be taken.”

“The sentence can never make up for the distress that the victim has experienced but we hope that this will help her in the process of moving on.”
