Town duo have a chance of Saturday Bath

FRESH from stealing the limelight for England C on Tuesday night, midfielder Adam Watkins will come into the equation for the Hatters when Bath City visit Kenilworth Road on Saturday, writes Mark Wood.

The young midfielder played 17 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Italy on Tuesday night, scoring the equaliser in stoppage time and Town boss Gary Brabin is looking forward to welcoming him into the fold for the visit of the Conference’s bottom club on Saturday.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Adam Watkins. It’s been a fantastic year for him up to now. From my point of view I just want to try and protect him as best as I can do to get the best out of him. If he looks back on the season up to now he will really have enjoyed it.

“He has got the limelight with the equaliser and we are all delighted for him. It’s just been good getting his name in the papers scoring the goal.”

Right-back Curtis Osano also stands a chance of being involved, with Brabin saying yesterday: “Curtis has stepped up his training and we are hoping he will join in tomorrow if not the day after.”

Fellow full-back Dan Gleeson remains sidelined with a back problem, as the boss continued: “We are going to be doing a few more tests to see the extent.”

Brabin also revealed they are still waiting for clarification of James Dance’s ankle injury and surgery may be required.

He said: “That would be the worst case. We haven’t had it clarified but it is quite serious. We’ve just got to find out the extent of it.”

The Town chief is looking for an improvement on the poor performance earlier in the season that saw Luton held to a 1-1 draw at Bath and believes the onus is very much on the Hatters.

He added: “There was a lot of disappointment dropping two points.

“It was a strange night because we were better than what we performed and worth more than a point, but went top of the league.

“I think the onus remains very much on ourselves. We want to be going into games confident.”
