Motorists are advised to avoid the route until Saturday, February 20, to allow for ongoing construction works on the Luton DART fast transit scheme.

Traffic heading towards the M1 J10 will follow signed diversions from the airport roundabout along Airport Way before merging back onto the A1081.

The carriageway will be reopened with narrow-lane running for two weeks from Sunday 21 February until Saturday 6 March.

From 8-10 March there will then be overnight closures of the southbound carriageway from 10pm-5am each evening between the airport roundabout and the junction with the B653. Signed diversions will be in place via Airport Way, Kimpton Road and Gipsy Lane.

Cllr Andy Malcolm, chair of Luton Council’s airport company London Luton Airport Ltd (LLAL), which is building the DART to improve journeys for rail passengers, said: “Roads in the area are significantly quieter during lockdown and these works have been carefully scheduled to minimise disruption.

"Traffic levels will be closely monitored, and in the event of any delays a single lane will be reopened as necessary.

"Nonetheless, we do advise road users to allow some extra time for their journey, and we apologise for any inconvenience which may be caused.”
