Luton trains delayed after reports of man with knife

Police found he had a legitimate reason to be carrying the knife

Trains were stopped outside Luton Railway Station after staff reported spotting a man with a knife.

Staff at Luton Airport Parkway told British Transport Police that they had seen a man with a knife, who was on a train leaving the station.

But police found the man had a legitimate reason to be carrying it.

A spokesperson for Thameslink said: “The police asked for the train to be held at Luton station, where they questioned the man and established that he had a legitimate reason for carrying the knife.

“We apologise to passengers for the delay and encourage anyone whose journey was delayed by 15 minutes or more to claim Delay Repay compensation via the Thameslink website.”

The spokesperson added: “Unfortunately, two trains had to be held outside the station briefly for safety reasons, causing one service to be terminated early because a change of driver was delayed.”
