An online fundraising campaign for the man, who fell 20 metres and landed on the roof of a small building, has already raised more than £2,000.

The building broke his fall but also caused severe injuries that meant he could not be easily moved when firefighters attended.

News of the Friday’s accident has spread swiftly in the rigging community.

One worker, Warren Dellow, a contractor at Heathrow, set up a fundraising campaign on Saturday afternoon for the injured man.

He said: “I’d set it up with a limit of £2,000, but within a couple of hours it went mental and was already at £900 so I upped the target to £5,000.”

The total had reached £2,265 by Monday morning.

Warren added: “We can relate to what happened to him. We all have these little slips. We are working up high, but we are trained to be working at heights.

“It is a very rare incident but whenever there is a serious incident, news travels to riggers within hours.”

It is believed the injured man worked for Redhall Networks. The company refused to comment on the accident.
