The ancient woodland provides an important natural habitat to a variety of wildlife and represents an invaluable example of our national natural history.

The existing volunteers have over three decades of experience behind them; formed under the patronage of the Woodland Trust, which owns the wood, in 1985. They carry out practical conservation activities and woodland management in order to help protect the 45 acre ancient woodland.

Sarah Shaw, Woodland Trust volunteering development co-ordinator, said: “We need a volunteer to take the lead in organising the working party days for the volunteer group and liaising with our site manager.

“Ideally it would be someone with a passion for woods, with some experience of managing a group of people, good communication skills and conservation experience.”

In order to prevent any threat or deterioration to the unique and valuable woodland, the volunteers carry out their duties, ensuring it remains an important natural habitat for a range of wildlife, and continues to allow for the opportunity to impress and provide joy and comfort to both its local community and to visitors alike.

This is achieved through activities such as coppicing and fencing, the construction of park entrances and exits, producing an annual work programme, which would to be agreed on with the site manager, along with a multitude of other activities.
