Wear your White Ribbon with pride

THE STATISTICS are shocking.

Almost half of all women in the UK experience domestic abuse, sexual assault or stalking.

In addition violence against women aged between 15 and 44 causes more death and disability than cancer, malaria, traffic accidents and war.

That’s why the White Ribbon campaign is so important, according to Luton All Women’s Centre executive director Sarita Jain (pictured).

She said: “Wearing a white ribbon next Friday (November 25) on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Young Girls is a personal pledge never to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.

“What makes this global campaign even more important is it was started by a group of Canadian men in 1991 after the brutal mass shooting of 14 female students at Montreal University. It advocates zero tolerance.”

LAWC is holding an open day on November 25 to raise awareness not only of the problem but also of the services available to combat it. It will be attended by MP Kelvin Hopkins.
