Red weather warning for Bedfordshire as temperatures set reach 38 degrees

Bedfordshire is in for a scorcher this week, with the Met Office predicting temperatures of up to 38 degrees.

An amber weather warning is already in place for the East of England today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday). But this has now been levelled up to a rare red alert for Wednesday and Thursday.

This means the exceptionally hot and humid weather is very likely to impact people, not just those deemed ‘vulnerable’.

The ‘feels like’ temperature could reach 38 degrees – with people told to avoid being out in the sun between 11am and 3pm.

And the heat is expected to continue through the night.

The Met Office said: “During the heatwave expected to affect a large part of England and Wales this week, the highlighted area now looks increasingly likely to see a two to three day period where maximum temperatures in the shade exceed 37 Celsius, perhaps rising to 38 to 40 Celsius in some places."

Staying hydrated, wearing light coloured and lightweight clothes, and applying sun protection are all essential during extreme heat.
