Luton Youth Network chair Montell Neufville is a man with a mission.

The former Barnfield pupil is hoping Luton’s negative image will be kicked into touch by the town’s youth.

LYN is about to launch a campaign called Luton2me, inviting young people from the community to highlight, through social media, what the town means to them.

Montell, whose background is marketing, community development and youth empowerment, has put together a video which showcases Luton’s perhaps surprising side – its culture, parks, events and the fact that it’s a fun place to live.

It starts with upbeat music and a voice-over saying ‘Welcome to Luton’ followed by several scenes shot, among others, at Carnival, the Mela and the Mall. It closes with the words ‘My home town, yeah.’

Montell said: “It’s a call to action for everyone in Luton, particularly young people in schools, colleges and businesses.

“Our goal is to lead people who live here to describe their home town, using social media such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Residents often call it modern, green, diverse – words not usually associated with Luton, particularly for outsiders.”
