Zoo night of animal magic

A wild night out is on offer this week only, on the one evening each year that Whipsnade Zoo is open to the public – and it’s sure to be a roaring success.

The Big Night Out has become a highly popular annual event.

And this year, it is all happening on Saturday, June 29.

Visitors will have a chance to enjoy a zoo experience with a difference.

All sorts of special events will be laid on.

Colourful Brazilian-style carnival bands, African acrobats and Zulu drummers will be performing.

Pay a visit to the main lawn for the Feeding Frenzy food festival, with tasty treats ranging from hog roasts to curry.

Above all, it’s an opportunity to spend a summer evening at close quarters with some of the most fascinating members of the animal world.

Visitors can see supper served to the lions, watch the elephants’ Trunk Walk around the zoo, and join in a safari truck adventure to see rhinos, camels, yak and deer.

Vets and keepers will be on hand to answer questions about the zoo’s residents.

Other attractions will include Birds of the World demonstrations and Sealion Splash sessions.

An unmissable bonus is the sight of the sun setting over the stunning Chiltern Hills.

> Entertainment starts at 6pm and ends at 10pm.

The zoo will close at 5pm for daytime visitors and reopen at 6pm for the Big Night Out. Last entry for day visitors will be 4pm.

Anyone planning to attend the Big Night Out must buy a separate ticket for the evening. Cars cannot be driven into the zoo for this special event. Parking is available in the main car park.
