Here’s when winds of up to 80mph are expected across the UK this weekend

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind to most of the UK this weekend, as strong winds are set to hit.

This yellow weather warning is in place from 6pm on Saturday 8 February to 11.59pm on Sunday 9 February.

The warning covers Central, Tayside & Fife, East Midlands, East of England, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, London & South East England, North East England, North West England, Northern Ireland, Orkney & Shetland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, South West England, Strathclyde, Wales, West Midlands, Yorkshire & Humber.

The Met Office said, “Very strong winds are likely across much of the UK later Saturday and through Sunday.

“Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are likely across many inland areas, with gusts 70, possibly 80 mph around some exposed coasts and hills, especially in the north and west.

“Heavy rain will be an additional hazard, especially over western hills.

“Winds of this strength across a wide area have the potential to produce disruption to transport, along with some coastal impacts, especially in the west.”
