Release dates and directors: details of the new James Bond film emerge

Britain's favourite secret agent is set to return to the big screens in 2019 - but what do we know about the film so far?

The new flick will be the 25th film in the Bond series is to be released next year as Daniel Craig reprises his role as 007.

Following the box office successes of Skyfall and Spectre in recent years, there is a great deal of anticipation around the new film - which is set to be Craig's last.

Here's everything we know so far as James Bond prepares for his next mission:

Who will direct it?

EON Productions - the makers of the film - have confirmed that Danny Boyle will direct the new flick.

Boyle is well-known for his work on films such as Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire - and he even scooped the Academy Award for best director in 2009.

He has spoken before about his desire to pen a script for Craig to play 007, and now he has his opportunity.

This won't be the first time Boyle has been involved with Bond, however.

He directed the famous parachute jump that saw the secret agent and the Queen descend into the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.

When will filming start?

While confirming Boyle as director, EON also confirmed that filming will start on December 3 of this year.

Shooting will take place at Pinewood Studios near Slough ahead of the film hitting the big screens in 2019.

When will the film be released?

Bond fans will have to wait until 2019 to see the final product, with the release date set for October 25, 2019.

Does the film have a name yet?

Not yet - the film is purely being referred to as 'Bond 25' for the time being.
