Ace Chloe serves her way to a National selection

STOPSLEY tennis ace Chloe Gallagher has become the first Bedfordshire player to be selected as a National Standard player for her age, writes Mike Simmonds.

The eight-year-old, who attends Putteridge Primary School, will now receive funding plus access to some of the best coaches in Britain.

Gallagher, who has been playing since she was five, is one of only a few girls of her age in the country to be chosen.

The youngster, who trains at Vauxhall and also at Gosling and Lister Tennis Club, has had a busy month of competitions.

She competed in the Maidenhead Junior Open U9 girls singles, where she reached the round robin draw, winning one and losing one.

She also took part in the Paddington Junior Open U9 girls singles where she qualifed by defeating Theodora Enslin and Maddie McLoughlin to reach the main draw where she went out in the final 16 to Lara Bakhaya.

Gallagher travelled to the East Anglia Junior Open U9 event, easing through the round robin stages, and then beating Charlotte Laing and Sama Malik to reach the final, where she lost to Abigail Michelow.

She also played in the Rickmansworth Open U9 singles at the Sutton Tennis Academy Easter Tournament where she made the main draw and the Gosling IHPC HitNRun Open Tournament U9 event where she once again made it past the round robin stages, before going out in the quarter-finals.

She most recently competed in the U8 East of England team event for Bedfordshire where.

Ranked as the number one player for her county, she was victorious in all seven of her matches.
