Angling round-up

Luton AC

With much of the still waters frozen over this week and snow on the ground only David Summerfield has managed to find an ice free area.

Fishing on the Grand Union Canal he used a glugged bait from Creative Baits to catch a small common carp.

The first work party of the year was held at Beckerings on Sunday and eight members plus club officers attended, trimming the longest willow branches.

The next work party is the annual litter pick along the Grand Union Canal, meeting at 9am on Saturday, March 3, in the Tesco car park in Leighton Buzzard with rubbish bags, litter pickers and gloves provided.

This is followed by maintenance work and general tidy ups at Woodland/The Mere on Saturday, March 17, at North House Lake on Sunday, April 8, and Biddenham on Sunday, May 13.

Attending a work party will mean you do not have to pay a work party levy if in an eligible membership class and any member completing three work parties between now and May 31 will be entitled to a free book.

The continuing very cold weather has meant that all lakes continue to be frozen with ice up to two inches thick.

Even the rivers have also had ice in the margins, but those who have braved the conditions have been rewarded with the odd large fish.

Stuart Haines banked a couple of chub at Radwell on legered cheesepaste, the best fish weighing in at 5lb 7oz.

Ian Randell caught a few dace at Sharnbrook on the float and maggot before switching to breadflake and banking a lovely 5lb 13oz chub.

With the rising temperatures, the rivers should improve towards next weekend.

All members are reminded that if they wish to buy a spring ticket, they must use the tear out form at the back of their book.
