ATHLETICS: Billington bags a bronze

Bedfordshire & Luton enjoyed a successful English Schools Athletics Championships held in Birmingham last week.

A team of 25 took part, with 21 scoring points; 18 gaining ESAA Standards, of which nine were the higher National Standards, and 15 placed in the top eight.

Three athletes gained medals, one an international vest and the Junior Boys brought home the Boys Borough of Watford Cup for winning their section of the Minor Counties team event.

Sophie Billington (Barnfield College) capped a long career at the English Schools Championships with a bronze medal in the Senior Girls 800m.

She had won her heat in 2.10.49mins, the quickest from all the qualifiers, and then clocked 2.08.06mins to finish third.
