ATHLETICS: Luton AC trio impress on both track and field

Jo Blair, coached by Dave Burrell, excelled in the javelin to finish fourth, only two metres behind the leading throw.

Blair’s return to form was signalled in May when she came second in the Loughborough International, throwing 50.98m, her longest distance for over five years.

Revee Walcott-Nolan is another athlete on the comeback trail. Finishing third in the English Schools 1,500m in 2010, the St Mary’s college student has failed to live up to her early promise.

Now advised by former Olympian 800m runner-up Matthew Yates, her personal best of 2.14mins was eclipsed in June when she won the South of England AAA Championship in 2.06mins.

She still needed to go faster in her heat to qualify for the final which she duly did, moving swiftly from last to third position in the finishing straight, to record another PB of 2.04.94mins.

Although out-run in the final, at just 20, she has many years ahead of her in which to improve.

Another rapidly improving athlete, Rosie Keane, also performed well at Birmingham.

The 23-year-old has won cross country events recently improved her 10k PB by over three minutes, this year it was the shorter distance of 1,500m which she qualified for.

In a slow tactical heat she finished ninth out of 14 in 4.27mins only four seconds short of qualifying for the final.
