ATHLETICS: Rosie is blooming after victory
Luton’s Daniel Woodgate took an early lead from Newham and Essex Beagles athlete Dave Mitchinson.
Woodgate had competed the previous day running 3,000m, plus the long jump and pole vault, so not surprisingly he slowed and Mitchinson finished almost a minute clear in 15.58mins.

Hide AdOliver Saville of Bedford and County finished third from Glen Turner of Leighton Buzzard AC.
In the ladies race Rosie Canham of Luton AC ,better known for the 800m was a surprise winner in 20.39mins.
She beat former European masters 5,000m Veteran champion Gayle Duckworth of Leighton Buzzard and Kim Gilbert of Dunstable Road Runners.
Stuart Still (Luton AC) and Katie Gibbons (Dunstable Road Runners) were the first veteran winners.

Hide AdMeanwhile, in the Veteran age groups the male winners were Gez Fallon (Stopsley Striders) V40, Martin Davern V45, Tony Barnes (Bedford Harriers) V50, Keith McLelland (Luton AC) V55, Chris Lamont ( Stopsley) V60, Alan Weir (Stopsley), David Fletcher (Bedford Harriers) V65 and PJ Hough (Stopsley) V75.
The ladies winners were Helen McFarland (Harpenden Arrows) V40, Denise Keens (Dunstable) V45, Linda Thomasson (Stopsley) V50, Lorraine Daglish (Luton) V55 and Elaine McCulloch (Bedford Harriers) V65.
The final race, the Luton 10K, takes place this weekend.
