Bad day at the office as Adams loses on points

TRAINER James Paisley described Dunstable fighter Mark Adams’ first professional defeat to Billy Smith on Saturday as a “bad day at the office.”

In his second outing, Adams, 26, was beaten 40-37 on points at York Hall by an opponent who came into the fight with a record of 106 losses from 121 bouts.

Paisley said: “I thought we had nicked it, but it was close.

“I had Mark winning the first as he started brightly, the second was close as Mark got his shots off well but then stood still as Smith worked back and caught the referee’s eye.

“The third started well but towards the end of the round his legs tired and he started getting outworked on the inside when on the ropes, but I still thought he won the round.

“He started the fourth well but his legs tired easily and Smith again outworked him.

“I thought we had done enough but could not complain when the decision went against us.

“A bad day at the office would be one way of describing the fight.

“It’s a big learning curve for both of us and I would say that is what you would call ‘leaving it in the gym’.”

Fellow Luton boxer Michael Devine is expected to be in action at the Goodwin Promotions Heaven or Hell show at York Hall on March 10, 2012.
