Cat-like George toys with Dwyer before finishing the job in the fourth

CLASSY boxer Bobby George toyed with opponent Tamao Dwyer before finally disposing of him in the fourth round at Wembley Arena tonight, writes Mark Wood.

Dwyer may have won two and drawn one of his four fights but was simply no match for Luton’s adopted Bulgarian son who dominated the bout from start to finish.

The 28-year-old Olympic bronze medallist, real name Boris Georgiev, seemed to have all the time in the world as he picked the 27-year-old Mancunian off at will and it was no surprise when the fight was finally stopped in the fourth round with Dwyer bleeding profusely from a cut beneath his eye.

George, sporting black shorts, weighed in for this fight at 10st 2lb 8oz, fresh from his points victory over Billy Smith in Northern Ireland last month.

The first round was almost all George with Dwyer barely throwing, let alone landing a punch. The Bulgarian landed a lovely right-left combination with just under a minute gone and proceeded to almost toy with his opponent.

Leading with his left jab George was constantly on the come forward and was the only one landing any leather as he forced his opponent into his corner and let rip midway through the round.

The second round was more of the same, with the Shamrock fighter landing a couple of good rights to Dwyer’s body

A left hook and a left-right combination put the Mancunian in trouble and he was already bloodied by the start of the third round.

Lunging attacks by George were followed by a series of great combinations which Dwyer simply had no answer to.

Such was the Lutonian’s domination that he started to showboat and play up to the cheers and calls from his following in the stands.

A stinging overhand right really hit home and Dwyer was almost holding on when the bell sounded.

Cat-like George was playing with the mouse-like Dwyer in the fourth and, after the Bulgarian had been tripped into the ropes, he finally decided to finish the job.

Having opened a cut up below Dwyer’s eye the referee was quick to step in and, after consulting the ringside doctor, stopped the fight after 1.24mins to give George his third straight victory.
