Devine beaten in Prizefighter final

Luton boxer Michael Devine was beaten in the Prizefighter lightweight final at York Hall on Saturday night.

The Lutonian was up against Irishman Jono Carroll for the £32,000 prize, as he lost on points, with the judges scoring it 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 in his opponents favour.

Carroll unloaded a host of punches in the first round, but Devine battled back with an attack to the ribs in the second.

Both men swapped punches in the final round although Carroll was eventually crowned champion.

Earlier in the night, Devine had beaten rival Danny Connor on points and then knocked out Lee Martin with an explosive left hook in the semi-final.

Afterwards, Devine tweeted: “Just wanna thank every 1 for the support, I can hold my head up high and left everything in the ring but I’ll be back.”
