Devine injured while James retires

Luton boxer Michael Devine has been forced to withdraw from his bout at York Hall this weekend with a reoccurrence of his hand injury.

Devine had been due to fight Hungarian Gyula Vajda, but trainer James Paisley said: “It looks like ligament damage and it’s something we’re going to have get to the bottom of.

“He won’t be punching for four to five weeks now, and although it’s frustrating, he’s still young enough to miss three to four months.

“Hopefully we can get it sorted out once and for all now, so he can get back into the ring.”

Meanwhile, fellow Lutonian Gavin James has announced his retirement from boxing.
