For the past six years she has dedicated her life to boxing and two months ago her hard work paid off when Team England came calling.

Since then she has trained with the national team at their Sheffield HQ and fought at Liverpool’s Echo Arena defeating a fellow England fighter, from a higher weight class.

She said: “We were supposed to have a return bout the weekend after (at the Academy’s Charity Boxing night in Stopsley) but the next day her coach called and said they wouldn’t be coming.”

It is easy to see why Tysie is an avoided fighter too as she is NABC and ABA champion and even out of competition she is training five days a week.

Asked about her thoughts on women’s boxing she continued: “It’s changed so much, I am surprised by how much people know about it and understand it compared to before.

“Now when I tell people I’m a boxer they often know about other women boxers. A lot changed after the London Olympics, there are lots more girls boxing now.”

Tysie who balances her training with an apprenticeship in Childcare says she harbours ambitions to compete at the Olympics.

She said: “I’m at the right age now to get in with England and work my way up, fingers crossed really.

“I’ll just keep working hard and training hard and see what happens.”

On the subject of her new England training regime, Tysie speaks fondly of a friendly rivalry between boxers, adding: “It’s like we are a team but there’s a competitive edge, but after training we all forget about it.

“We are hoping to hear about the Europeans, so for now I’m just ticking over and waiting for the call.”
