Hillerby holds on for victory

SOME good early rounds from Joe Hillerby were just enough for him to earn a narrow points victory over Iain Jackson in their light middleweight at Luton’s Liquid nightclub on Sunday, writes Mark Wood at ringside.

The Ulsterman was impressive early on but seemed to fade and was just a tad fortunate to earn the 39-38 points decision for his fourth-straight pro win.

Belfast boy Hillerby, 23, in the white and blue shorts, weighed in at 12 stone dead with Brighton’s Jackson clad in red and boasting a weight of 11st 11lb.

Graham Earl-trained Hillerby enjoyed by far the best of the first two rounds.

Jackson came out throwing, but it Hillerby who was landing the combos, working the body and finding a decent right uppercut.

House of Champions boxer Hillerby was caught with a good left at the start of the second, but Hillbery was connecting far more often and a series of good combos which again gave him the round.

From there though the game Jackson came back into, easily taking the third round and clubbing his opponent in the fourth, but Hillerby came back into it late on and did just enough to sneak the narrowest of victories.
