The duo had travelled out to Italy with Hoddesdon Boxing Club, with Italy winning 10 bouts and England claiming five triumphs.

King produced the best performance of his boxing career to date against Italian representative, southpaw Grimaldi Biagio, who boxes out of the Rocky Marciano Boxing Club in Milan.

In the first round, the Italian boxed on the front foot and it became apparent that the stocky Italian had a fierce back hand. As King adjusted to boxing in the hundred degree heat though, he found his feet in the last half of this round and began to grow into the contest.

The second round saw both boxers battle to dominate the centre of the ring and it was King who came out on top throwing a fantastic array of punches including left hooks and straight right combinations which began to wear the Italian down.

Going into the third round the contest was even and it was King’s back hand that was to settle it as midway through this last round he rocked his opponent twice with powerful straight punches - it was tribute to the tough Italian that he stayed on his feet.

Sensing victory, King backed the Italian into the corner and a flurry of punches left all three judges in no doubt who had won this entertaining battle.

It was a fantastic end to King’s season, gaining valuable experience in Europe and his coach Sab Leo is currently organising further international bouts for Sam next season in Ireland, Denmark, Sweden and Kansas, USA.
