“Mervyn Turner told me to stay in the gym and keep fit which is exactly what I have done and I think I am now in the best shape I have ever been in as a professional.
“When we got the call to confirm the Joshua fight we had already been working on our tactics so it was just a matter of reinforcing them with a renewed vigour.
“I am really up for this fight and will bring something different to the table that Joshua has not seen or had to deal with.

“I thank Matchroom and Mervyn for getting me this opportunity to box on the biggest boxing show in British history, which is just unbelievable for me. When you think 18 months ago I was retired and thinking of just going to get back in the gym for a bit of fitness until I had a chat with Mervyn.
“Now I have had two home shows, Prizefighter sharing a ring with the legend James Toney and now this, it’s like a dream.
“There is no pressure on me at all. I feel really calm and just enjoying every single moment of it.

“No-one has really tested him yet but I intend to give him something to think about and hopefully pull off a shock upset.”
Trainer Turner said: “Matt has really trained hard for this fight and I can say that he really is in great shape both physically and mentally.
“We have been treating it as a training camp knowing this might be in the pipeline and have had some great sparring partners in to help Matt’s preparation.” Meanwhile, opponent Joshua added: “To box at the national stadium on a bill of this magnitude is a real honour and I plan to kick the night off with a bang against Matt.
“I know he will want to put on a show on such a huge occasion but I will be looking to add another big KO to my collection.”
