Legg made a successful comeback to the ring with Shamrock Boxing in Milton Keynes and when the opportunity arose to compete in the competition, trainer, promoter and manager Mervyn Turner had no hesitation in accepting the invitation.

The USA vs Britain-themed event at York Hall on Thursday, November 14, includes three-weight world champion James Toney, Sherman Williams, Sam Sexton and Larry Olubamiwo.

Turner said: “There is no down side for Matt in Prizefighter, it is a great competition, watched and enjoyed by a huge TV following so the exposure will be great for him.

“But I also think that Matt has a real chance in the competition as it is over three rounds which is ideally suited to him at the moment as he always starts faster than most.

“Training has been going well for the past few weeks and we have been sparring some top people in preparation for the tournament.

“Matt will be ready come the night and we are definitely in it to win it.

“Matt was a real contender prior to his injury and we both said the first fight back would tell us whether it was still there and we matched him tough for that reason.

“There is no point taking easy opponents just to make a few bob and Matt is very serious about his fanbase and would not do that to them.

“It was very obvious from his performance that he still had the fire in his belly and the talent to cause a few upsets on the British heavyweight scene.”

Legg delighted at being included in Prizefighter, and added: “This is just what I wanted at this stage and all credit to Mervyn for getting me the shot.

“He has confidence in me and I know I can do well in it otherwise we would not bother.

“I definitely think I can win it, of course there are one or two hard fights in there, but I am confident in my ability and training and sparring is going really well at the minute.

“I know my fans will come out in numbers come the 14th so I won’t let them down.

“They have so supportive to me over the years and I know they will enjoy a night out at the famous York Hall.”
