The 31-year-old was due to meet Evangelou at York Hall on Saturday, March 21, but the bout has been called off due to his opponent suffering a fracture in his arm.

Stephenson said: “It is now the second time this fight has been called off and I have not been out of the gym training very hard for it.

“Mervyn Turner, my manager and trainer, has had me in the gym constantly and travel all over the place to get quality sparring.

“I have put in a lot of hard work and can honestly say I have not trained as hard for any fight before.

“It would almost seem like Evangelou does not want to face me which I am sure is not the case but it feels like it.”

Stephenson has three wins and two defeats to his name has now not boxed since July 2013 as trainer Turner added: “It is a real disappointment for the lad.

“While he has not been the most active boxer he has really knuckled down and trained very hard over the past few months.”
