The rangy 29-year-old floored his debutant opponent from Thatcham three times in less than a minute in the first round as the fight was finally halted after just 1.05mins.

A delighted Stephenson said: “It was very good, I enjoyed it. I expected it to be a bit longer but if there’s an opportunity there just take it.”

With Richardson charging in and flailing around Stephenson picked him off with the far cleaner shots, first flooring him with a right and ending the contest with a wicked left.

He continued: “I’ve just working on the sharpness, less power more speed really.

“Just be patient really. Used what I’ve got, my long reach, my power as you can see and it will come out more and more.”

After some early disappointments in his career, Stephenson has now won three and lost two of his professional fights and is targeting future glory.

He said: “I’ve brushed it off (the disappointment), it’s time to start shining. I’m excited, I can’t wait.

“It’s a good feeling and I’ll just carry it on with hard work and dedication really.

“It was an awesome confidence boost but I’m not going to let it go to my head, just work hard after a good performance like that.

“I just want to start lifting titles and open people’s eyes up.

“The talent that’s in Luton, I’ve got to start doing this, start getting to work.”

Stephenson looked in great shape having weighed in at 12st 13lb and he’s looking ahead to a busy year.

He added: “We’re looking forward to the rest of the year, we’re going to be very busy, very active.

“Hopefully in the next month, two months (I should be out again). We should have about five or six this year and I can’t wait really.”
