Beds fall to Cornwall defeat

Bedfordshire suffered a six-wicket defeat in their MCCA Knockout Trophy Group One clash at Cornwall on Sunday.

The hosts opted to bowl first, dismissing Beds for 114 from 40 overs. James Kettleborough (15) and Steve Stubbings (21) put on 38 for the first wicket, but they both fell in quick succession as Beds slipped to 47-3.

Oliver Clayson hit 16 and Andy Reynoldson made 22, but once they were dismissed the lower order crumbled from 87-4 to 114 all out.

Veteran Will Sneath claimed an early wicket in Cornwall’s reply, as David Roberts was caught by Kettleborough, while Colin Griggs had Dan Davis leg before. Chris Esh saw Tom Sharp stumped by George Arblaster and Reynoldson bowled Matthew Rowe to make it 77-4. But opener Matthew Robins hit an unbeaten 39, while Chris Hunkin scored 18 not out as Cornwall reached 118-4 in the 31st over.

Beds’ match with Devon on Monday was abandoned after Beds had made 100-7 from 23 overs, Reynoldson 54 not out, and Devon on 23-1 off five overs.

The county are back in action on Sunday as they host Oxfordshire at Cople Argus.
