Bragging rights are Lutonian’s after comprehensive victory

Lutonian enjoyed an impressive 114-run win over neighbours Luton Town & Indians in their Bedfordshire County League Premier Division on Sunday.

The hosts chose to bat first, putting 204-8 on the board thanks mainly to Hamid Riaz’s knock of 54 including seven fours and two sixes.

He was well supported by Usman Farooq (40), Zaheer Khan (28), Naeem Khan (22) and Saanwal Ilyas (15no).

Indians were then bowled out for just 90 in reply as Ilyas took 4-20, while there were wickets for Riaz (2-0), Muhammad Kamran (2-25), Ahtzaz Ahmed (1-7) and Aslam Khan (1-29).

In the Division One match at Eggington Foresters, Lutonian IIs triumphed by 109 runs.

Batting first, the visitors were dismissed for 204 in the 45th over as opening batsman Waqas Awan narrowly missed a century, out for 92.

Gohar Ayub (19) gave good support, before Tahir Ishaq starred with the ball as Forresters were skittled for 95.

He claimed 6-35, while Mubarak Zeb took 3-19 and Harmain Asif 1-16.

Lutonian’s Beds Invitation League Division Two match against Henlow was cancelled due to the rain.

In the Bedfordshire Youth Competition Development U12s South Division match at Lower Wardown Park, Lutonian U12s beat Henlow U12s by 27 runs.

Put into bat, Lutonian made 163-5 from 20 overs and they restricted their opponents to 136-7,

That made it four wins on the trot, after defeating Eaton Bray, Studham and Leighton Buzzard.
