Cherry stars as Dunstable Town CC begin with a win

Dunstable’s first, second and third teams kicked off their campaigns this weekend in Herts leagues One, Four B and Eight B respectively.

The Lancot Road club began their Saracens Herts League Division One campaign with a 65-run victory over Old Finchleians.

Batting first, Kashif Ali got the innings off to a good start with a solid 34 which was later followed up with 54 from Sam Cherry, 50 by captain Brad Matthews and a late quickfire 28 from Terry Carr in a total of 228-6 from 47 overs.

In return Old Finchleians were bowled out for just 163 with Raz Khan returning figures of 3-39 and a man-of-the-match contribution from Cherry, who claimed 4-30.

The IIs suffered an eight wicket defeat at St Albans in Division Four B.

Richard Kilduff top-scored with 23, but Dunstable were skittled for just 93 as St Albans knocked the runs off with relative ease for the loss of just two wickets inside 27 overs.

Dunstable IIIs were beaten by 50 runs as they travelled to Old Elizabethans in Division Eight. The hosts reached 226-5 from their 50 overs with Ayaz Ahmed taking two wickets. It proved too much for Dunstable though as they were bowled out for 176 with Jack MacDiarmid making 50 and Steve Rumball 29.

Dunstable IVs went down by 79 runs to Houghton Chargers in the Bedfordshire Invitational League Division One.
