Cup teams whittled to final four

LUTON Pakistanis booked their place in the semi-finals of the Luton & District Midweek League Cup as they won comfortably against Lions CC on Thursday night.

Pakistanis, the 2010 losing finalists, batted first and piled up 153-8 with Ibrar Walayat hammering 79.

The target was too much for Lions as losing regular wickets slowed them down and they could only manage 110.

It was always going to be a close encounter between Division One leaders LU Stars and Premier table-toppers Luton Haiderys, and so it proved to be as nearly 300 runs were scored.

Stars elected to bat first and smashed 146-6 in their allotted overs.

In reply Haiderys had the trio of father Nasser Hussain, who hit a quickfire 20, and his two sons, Zawar and Kamber, in fine touch as half centuries led their side to a comfortable seven-wicket victory.

The 2010 winners will now go head-to-head with Luton Pakistanis who they beat in that final.

Defending champions Luton Majestics secured an excellent win as they defended 103 with captain Muddasar Hussain making a rapid 30 to lead his team to a respectable total.

Nasir Shehzad then ran through the AKCC batting line up as he claimed amazing figures of 6-21 to leave their opponents just short on 98.

Luton Hawks ensured the semis would be an all-Premier affair as they swept aside Division Two The Saracens. Saracens set a competitive total of 127-9 thanks to Rahoof Khan’s 27 and Nazuk’s 46, while Naeem Ahmed bowled well to take 3-11.

Asif Khan, who on Tuesday blasted 118, continued his magical form as he hammered 60 and was well supported by Awais Malik (25) to lead Hawks into the last four where they will face Majestics.
