Dunstable reign in the rain as County League champions

Dunstable won the toss in their winner takes all clash with Lutonian and batted first, struggling to 69-4 before the rain came.

The game was abandoned just after 6pm and out came the champagne as Dunstable won the Premier Division for just the second time, and the first time since 2006.

Meanwhile they go into Saturday’s final Saracens Herts League game knowing a win will promote them to the Championship.

OnSaturday they bowled their hosts Old Albanians out for 196 as Jack Kilduff took 4-42. As Dunstable needed just 53 to win with four wickets in hand at 144-6, the umpires decided to abandon the game for poor light, .

Meanwhile Khuram Farooq impressed with bat and ball for the seconds in a losing cause at Lancot Park. Farooq took 3-38 as Flitwick reached 256-7. Farooq then hit 31 as Dunstable could only manage 234-9 from their 50 overs as Ian Horton scored 78 with Steve Rumball adding 44.

The thirds were also defeated at home as Sawbridgeworth bowled themout for just 86, captain Phil Lewis showing some resistance with 38.

Dunstable took five wickets in reply as their visitors reached 87-5 from 23 overs.

The fourth team picked up just their fourth win of the season in the Beds Invitation League, bowling Graveley out for just 93 with Ken Alden returning 5-19. Dunstable lost just three wickets as Marcus Connor finished with an unbeaten 45, Dunstable moving off the bottom of the table.

In the Beds County League the thirds managed to reach 119-5 from 29 overs with Phil Lewis scoring 30 before the rain arrived to end the game.
