Five-star Alston sets up Dunstable win

Dunstable were in a bit of bother when their batsmen scored a modest 153 all out, despite an excellent 60 from Kashif Ali and 30 not out from Jack Kilduff.

But up Alston stepped up to the mark as he claimed five for 23 as Chorleywood were dismissed for just 132 to seal a 21-run win for Dunstable.

Offering support for Alston was Guy Hill with three for seven and Luke Cherry with two for 27.

In Division Eight B, Dunstable IIIs were far too good for Greenwood Park, and Adam Lewis had a very good day.

Lewis starred with the bat, hitting 92 in Dunstable’s 263 for nine in their 50 overs, with Ned Whitney adding 62.

Lewis then did the business with the ball as well, taking three for 28 as Greenwood were shot out for 131. Also among the wickets were Shoaib Rashid (2-21) and Tom Hill (2-23).

Dunstable IVs suffered a 29-run defeat to Kempston Methodists in division two of the Bedfordshire Invitation League.

Methodists totalled 176 for eight in their 40 overs, despite the efforts of Adam Stearn (3-27), Ken Alden (2-30) and Prtihvi Dixit (2-24), and that proved too many for Dunstable who replied with 147 for seven.

Freddie Lippiott certainly did his bit, cracking an unbeaten 52, while Ryan McGaurin scored 27.

On Sunday, Dunstable secured a 36-run win over Luton Town & Indians in the Bedfordshire County League Premier Division.

Sam Cherry smacked 68 and Luke Cherry 39 as Dunstable racked up 165 all out, and thanks to a great spell of bowling from Ian Gilbert, who took four for 16 from nine overs, Indians were bowled out for 129.

Support for Gilbert came from Razaullah Khan, who took two for 16.

It wasn’t such good news for Dunstable IIs who lost by 29 runs to Ampthill in division three. Harry Wright bagged two for 32 and Abdul Haseeb two for 33, but Ampthill still scored a useful 212 for six in their 40 overs.

Dunstable gave it a good go in the run chase, but fell short on 183 for six despite good efforts from James Bromhall (44), Phil Lewis (36) and Dean Woods (25no).
