Former England star Paul Nixon heads to Beech Hill Primary

The 44-year-old, who played 19 one day internationals for his country during a 22-year career, worked on the basics of fielding and helped the children with their batting technique too.

During the session, held in association with Beds Cricket Academy, he also played well known games with the talented cricketers, while also conducting the morning assembly in front of 400 children and school staff.

Nixon discussed his life as a cricketer and the importance of eating healthy food, while he made all the children and teachers complete 10 squats in a wicket keeping position too.

The ex-Leicestershire player was impressed with the talent on display and spoke highly of a few of the upcoming players who organisers will be in touch with to encourage playing cricket through the Beds Cricket Academy.

The day was set up by the International Cricketers Association to encourage young players to continue playing the sport at the highest level possible.

They are looking to work alongside other schools in a similar capacity around the country to set up coaching sessions with current and former cricket players.
