Khan bowls Haiderys to Premier Division title

LUTON Haiderys have been crowned the Luton & District Midweek League Premier Division champions after securing a comfortable 54-run victory against Luton Majestics on Tuesday night.

Haiderys, who lost out to Luton Pakistanis last season, overcame Majestics despite being bowled out for 124 with Tanveer Hussain (46) and Zawar Hussain (37) contributing.

Majestics could only manage 69 as Zeeshan Khan, 5-24, ripped through their batting line-up.

Haiderys are now looking to repeat their 2010 league and cup double as they head into the cup semi-finals against Luton Pakistanis.

Majestics are also in cup action when they take on Luton Hawks.

Luton Pakistanis moved to second in the table as they secured a six-wicket victory against Lions CC who could only them set a target of 100-8.

Tasir Hussain (2-21) and Tahir Murtaza (3-13) bowled economically with Hamad Kiani making 30 and Umar scoring 24.

Pakistanis were then led by Mohammed Haroon, who scored 27 and Arif Khan (21) as they emerged six-wicket winners.

Lions have dropped into the relegation zone but, with three games remaining, still have a good chance of avoiding the drop.

Luton Hawks climbed off the bottom after blasting their way to victory over Kingsway CC who now find themselves on the brink of relegation.

Kingsway elected to bat first and hammered 135-5 as Gurdeep Jandu made 53, Assad Hussain scored 29 and Omraiz Khan smashed a quickfire 25.

In reply, Hawks’ Asif Khan, who had taken two wickets, blasted his way to 37, while opening partner Awais Akhtar also contributed 25.

Yasir Munir and Aftab Ali picked up a few scalps each, but this only brought Naeem Khan to the crease and his well-timed 37 took his team to victory by six wickets.

Luton United Stars have been crowned Division One champions after they narrowly beat Luton Saracens by seven runs.

Stars totalled 130-6 as Watif smashed a quickfire 40 but, despite Yasir Choudary’s 32, Saracens ended up just short on 123-5.

Luton CC moved to second in the table as they chased down Kashmir Cavaliers’ target of 126-7.

Nasir Khan (4-22) bowled excellently in Cavaliers innings, before Luton reached their tally with three wickets in hand to relegate their opponents to Division Two.

Shaheen, 143-5, moved away from the relegation zone as they secured a much-needed victory against AKXI who fell short on 126-7.
