Leicester lose out to Luton as Beds side book their place in Lord’s Taverners Cup semi-finals

Luton’s representative XI beat Leicester by 32 runs in the quarter-finals of the Lord’s Taverners Cup on Monday, August 26, at Wardown Park.

The Luton team, that played under the RF Royals banner during the town competition, were all outt for 107 with Mohammed Essa making 22, captain Akash Shah 17 and Badal Naik 15.

Leicester were then bowled out for 75 as man of the match Shaan Ahmad Zai took 3-12 and Shah 1-5 off two overs as they were backed up by some outstanding fielding.

The semi-final against South London will take place on Saturday at Luton Town & Indians CC.

The Lord’s Taverners City Cup competition includes teams from Middlesex, Surrey, Leicestershire, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Yorkshire and Bedfordshire and gives promising local cricketers the opportunity to begin a fast-track career to the professional game with the best player awarded a contract with the MCC Young Cricketers.
