Majestic do the double as they gain promotion

CUP winners Luton Majestic sealed the Luton & District Midweek Cricket League Division One title after defeating AKXI and Kingsway CC lost to Luton United Stars on Tuesday night.

A Kingsway victory would have meant the title rested on tonight’s matches, but instead Majestic completed the double.

All-rounder Raza Iqbal was again to the fore as AKXI made 111, Masood Mahmood top scoring with 30. Iqbal took three wickets and Majestic’s top run scorer also made a useful 29 as they sealed promotion to the Premier Division.

Kingsway CC blew their chance of promotion after they were blown away by Luton United Stars.

Stars elected to bat first and Kingsway bowlers Zahoor Rehman (2-11) and Aftab Ali (2-19) bowled good spells to restrict them to a modest 95-7 with Akmal Hussain top scoring with 20.

Kingsway then had a shocker as their top order was ripped apart by Adrees Butt who bowled an amazing spell of 4-9 off his four overs as Kingsway were eventually bowled out for just 58.

This win also secured Stars’ Division One status for next season and they could overtake Kingsway for second spot if Kingsway lose to Majestic.

Relegation-threatened Shaheen CC won an important game against relegated The Saracens, who chose to bat first and were dismissed for 104 with only Taberaz Khan contributing a useful 30.

Shaheen then chased down their target with two overs to spare as they won by five wickets.

Shaheen are now six points clear of AKXI, who they play tonight, and if they are to stay up they must beat Shaheen by a massive margin.

Kashmir Cavaliers, who have never before dropped a division, were relegated to Division One even before a ball was bowled.

AKCC conceding to Lions CC meant the latter got the points they needed to move clear of Cavaliers who in the end lost against the champions Luton Pakistanis.

Cavaliers turned out with nothing to lose and they blasted a massive 158-6 thanks to Azhat’s 40 and Zohaib Bashir’s 47 not out as Pakistanis’ bowling was ripped apart with the exception of Tasir Hussain (2-22).

In reply, Pakistanis lost their top order, but Ibrar Walayat smashed a magnificent 97 and was assisted by a useful 20 by Mohammad Walayat to take their team home in the last over as they won by five wickets.
