Stubbings, 33, enjoyed 12 years in the first class game with Derby, scoring over 7,500 runs with 12 hundreds, but has joined up with Beds for their Minor Counties campaign.

The Huddersfield-born batsman is also an ECB Level 3 coach and is now expected to open the batting for Beds this season starting with their opening fixture against Hertfordshire on Sunday.

He said: “Hopefully if I can come along and help shore up the top of the order with my experience of playing for Derby then that’s what I will try and do.”
