Cycling Round-Up

Tim Davies rounded off the season with a fourth place finish in the eighth and final round of the London North Millennium Time-Trial Series.

The Icknield Road Club rider finished the course from Barton near Cambridge, west over the hill to Orwell and the turn at Wimpole in 23.52mins in temperatures just above freezing.

He was beaten by Scott Cousins (Maldon & District CC) in 22.28mins, Peanut Arnold (Team PedalRevolution) in 23.31mins and Luke Clarke (Team Milton Keynes) in 23.38mins. Provisionally this result places Davies at the head of the veterans class for the series.

Davies has also won the Grace Blackman Trophy – a regional trophy for the North London area which is awarded to the lowest aggregate times in 25, 50 and 100 mile open events within the region – for 2011. Davies was second last year, but a good 100-mile time was a major factor in him taking the prize.

Meanwhile, the fourth round of the Central Cyclo-Cross League was hosted by Hemel Hempstead Cycling Club at Longdean School on a varied and interesting course with long wooded sections as well as awkward features that could not be ridden over. There were 15 riders in the U12 race where Toseef Tashfin came in 13th, but Uzaik Zuleqar had problems and unfortunately didn’t finish the challenging course in warm and dry conditions. Bailey Anderson rode well to come sixth in the boys U16 race, with Lauren Randall coming home second in the girls U16 section.

Ray Morgan, Peter Jones and Lister Williams all entered the Adult Novice race and came home one after the other in fifth, sixth and seventh places.
