Cyclist Morgan is called up to GB Olympic Talent Team

His selection means the 15-year-old Stopsley High School has fulfilled his road and track cycling target for the season and is now seen as a future potential Olympian.

Dad Kevin Morgan, a former Great Britain rider in the 1980s, said: “Great Britain coaches were impressed with Luke’s early season performances and at the UK School Games in May when he represented Central England.

“Also, his strength and determination following a crash in early June which left him with a broken arm and 10 weeks recovery period, to then return into National Track racing competitions during August and September in Manchester and Wales where he placed very highly in the rankings.”

Luke is a member of both Welwyn Wheelers and Cycle Club Luton and will now train with the Great Britain Talent Team coaches while, on a monthly-basis, travel between Manchester, Wales and Scotland to compete on a national and international basis as part of the first stage of his Olympic Development programme.

Morgan rode his first cyclo-cross race last October, where he was spotted by British Cycling coaches and hasn’t looked back.

British Cycling’s performance manager, Gary Coltman, said: “To be selected on the BC Talent Team suggests Luke has shown a level of ability that demonstrates he could be successful at the very highest level in the future.”
