Devils and Pearls earn Cup and Plate triumph

THE Luton Dunstable & District League Plate and Cup finals were held at the indoor court in Putteridge over the weekend.

In the plate final, two second division teams, Black Pearls and Crawley Green Tornadoes, faced each other.

Both teams started nervously and goals were slow to materialise, but an injury stoppage for Pearls’ goal defence late in the first quarter allowed them to settle as they led 5-2.

Pearls started to dominate in the second quarter as their shooters, although well marked by Rachel Keane and Ella Bush, were able to find space in the circle, as they took what looked like an unassailable 13-6 lead.

Greens refused to be beaten and fought back in the third quarter, with their centre court combining well to turn over ball and create chances for Sue Kemp and Michelle McGillicuddy who began to find the net.
